“Creativity and the Enemies That Limit It” is a concept born after watching a great video posted online by Stefan Mandachi.
Stefan is someone I respect and learn a lot from. In that intriguing video, he talks about shame, fear, the dogmas that limit our creativity—all of these “enemies,” in quotes. And yet, in that video, he didn’t mention one enemy I battle with and that I’ve seen in him as well. I’m talking about a common enemy for all of us.
Creativity and the Enemies That Limit It – Comparison
This disservice we do to ourselves.
We have this tendency to compare ourselves to others. Especially with others who are bigger, more beautiful, wealthier. It depends on the attributes you tend to admire.
Naturally, when you compare yourself to someone you perceive as superior, you’ll feel small, you’ll feel inferior, you’ll feel weak. “I can never compare to X or Y… Look where they’ve gotten, look what they’ve achieved, and so on.” And then why even try?
However, everyone who is “big” started small; no one was born big. They went through various stages.
Through creativity, hard work, and enduring many challenging phases, they reached where they are today.
Creativity and Sources of Inspiration
To illustrate this, I invite you to check out Stefan’s recent video: “35 Ideas to Develop Your Creativity.”
In that video, Stefan talks with a friend who starts to compliment him as a talented director. Stefan hesitates, shows some reluctance, and asks not to be compared, saying he’s not a “big” director and that he’ll edit out that part.
I’m glad they didn’t cut that footage. At that moment, Stefan showed us his own fear. That fear can inhibit creativity—the fear of comparing ourselves to others.
It’s a fear we all have, myself included. That’s why I’ve filmed a video on this topic too. Filming videos was something I wanted to do, yet there was always a hesitation.
Well, I believe it’s time to face these fears. To eliminate these enemies of creativity. Yes, it’s time to understand that everyone who is great started small. We should work hard ourselves to get to where we’ve dreamed.
Using creativity as a catalyst for #ideas can help us solve problems, share values, or entertain. We should cultivate it, use it, because it’s something we all share. And the obstacles we face are just as common.
So, I hope this video helps you rediscover your CREATIVITY and gives you the push to be a bit better today than yesterday and a bit less than you’ll be tomorrow! Enjoy the video, and leave your thoughts in the comments! Subscribe and click the bell for more updates!
